Obviously, I was never a boy scout. I also was never a girl guide, but I envied those girls in their smart uniforms, knee socks and that red sash covered with badges for skills like penmanship and sewing. But these are different times and the Boy Scouts have updated their merit badges, now you can get them for skills like texting, you tubing, and ipod listening. Or for more varied and unusual skills like cat herding and snoring.
You can find these badges and more at the Boy Scouts of America website

I was a Brownie and a Girl Guide … learning to tie knots seems to boring now.

I was a Cub Scout, and got a ‘cooking’ badge for a) opening a can of Chunky Beefburger Soup and b) placing the contents of said can in a pot and c) putting that pot on a stovetop and d) turning on the element until e) the soup was heated, but not scalded.
After finishing it off with a flourish at f) by putting the warm soup in a bowl, I got the badge. I’m sure some other kid got a Breakfast Badge for microwaving donuts or some such.
